MAZ dump trucks

When the Minsk Automobile Plant just launched its own production of trucks, its first creation was a dump truck. And this is not surprising, because without a car of this type it is impossible to carry out the construction of buildings, road repairs, shipment of agricultural crops, etc.

Naturally, in a short time, the MAZ dump truck became popular and became widely used in Russia and the CIS. Its demand has not changed even after decades, but today the cars have undergone multiple modifications and are modern cargo vehicles.

Dignities

The demand for MAZ dump trucks, in comparison with the products of other car factories, is explained by a reasonable price/quality ratio, which is preserved with a long list of advantages:

• Good maneuverability in urban conditions;
• A spacious cabin, roomy enough for two people, which allows you to change shifts on the spot and not stop the work of transport for a long time;
• An effective heating system that protects against frostbite during operation at extremely low temperatures;
• Powerful engines that meet the international standard Euro-4 (on new models);
• A wide range of vehicles with different wheel formulas and load capacity from 5 to 25 tons;

Model range

The existing model range of dump trucks includes vehicles with engines that meet the standards of Euro 2, 3 and 4. At the same time, the first two lines have already been discontinued, although they can be seen on the road or in the list of used trucks.

Euro-2

• The MAZ 650108 has a minimum load capacity of 15 tons, which is equipped with a powerful engine from the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant of 400 horsepower. The German gearbox guarantees reliable operation, so such cars are still on the move.
• Other models of the 5516 and 6517 series are equipped with YAMZ engines, but already in 330 hp, the gearbox is also provided by the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant, and their load capacity is 20 tons.

Since the Euro-2 environmental class is considered hopelessly outdated, dump trucks are used by individuals or small construction organizations. Large companies and official state-owned enterprises prefer the purchase of more modern vehicles.

Euro-3

The most advanced engine is widely installed in a large-scale line of vehicles, so it is widely used in various enterprises.

• MAZ-4570-Dump trucks without a berth with an engine from the Minsk motor plant and a 5-stage SAAZ gearbox, hold up to 5 tons of cargo and are equipped with a 130-liter fuel tank.
• MAZ-5551 is one of the most popular models with a 230-horsepower YAMZ engine and a five-speed transmission of domestic production. The maximum load capacity is 10 tons, and some modifications are also equipped with a three-way unloader.
• MAZ-5516 is a separate branch of dump trucks with a" heart " of 330 hp and an 8-9-speed gearbox. The load capacity of 20 tons can be used not only near the city, but also on long-term transportation, since some cars are equipped with a sleeping place for the driver. The peculiarity of 5516A8-336 in the presence of lateral unloading is a unique solution that precedes the three-way option.
• MAZ-6501-Engineers experimented with everything they could on this line – engines from the Yaroslavl motor plant or an unexpected solution from Renault are installed on different variations, the power ranges from 330 to 412 hp.Gearboxes are used from YAMZ and ZF and have from 9 to 16 stages. The load lifting ranges from 16 to 21 tons. A stable value is the size of the fuel tank of 300 liters, but even here there is a deviation from the rule in 6501A8-325-000. This MAZ is positioned as a grain carrier and has a fuel tank for 700 liters. for comfortable transportation of cargo over long distances with a minimum number of stops. Naturally, the grain truck is equipped with a sleeping place.
• MAZ-6516-The line became the last with Euro-3 ecological class engines from YAMZ with a capacity of 400 hp. Only two types have different gearboxes - from domestic and foreign manufacturers. The load capacity of the dump truck is 25 tons, which is the absolute maximum for this generation of transport.

Euro-4

Modern cars are still on the assembly line, and it is with them that the main work of designers and engineers is carried out to modernize technologies and apply systems that are in demand by drivers. All MAZ vehicles of this generation can be divided into groups according to the wheelbase.

Wheelbase 4x2

Almost all trucks are presented without a sleeping place, with rare exceptions, in most cases they have a fuel tank for 130 liters, and the maximum load capacity ranges from 3 to 12 tons. Among the features of individual models, we can distinguish:

• MAZ 4571-The line uses a 177 hp MMZ engine and a six-speed Fast Gear transmission.
• MAZ 4570 is an experimental line in which the" hearts "from MMZ were replaced by Cummins in 170"horses". As a result, the performance characteristics have not changed much, so the solution is not very popular due to an unjustified price difference.
• MAZ 5550-Dump trucks with YAMZ engines from 240 to 310 hp, a German gearbox in 9 stages and an average load capacity of 10 tons. Their design provides for an increased fuel tank up to 300 liters, and some modifications are equipped with a sleeping place for long journeys.
• MAZ 5551-A modern version of the legendary transport does not differ in any special characteristics. The averaged parameters make it ideal for operation in urban conditions, but it is not suitable for long-distance transportation.

Wheelbase 6x4

Dump trucks of this type are popular in various industries, since their load capacity ranges around the 20-ton mark. All varieties are equipped with a fuel tank of at least 300 liters, with rare exceptions. Individual lines have their own characteristics:

• MAZ 5516 is the only lightweight model with a load capacity of 15 tons, a 200-liter fuel tank and a 300-horsepower engine. The design feature is that the sleeping bag can not be installed by the customer's order, unlike other representatives with a 6x4 wheelbase.
• MAZ 6501-According to the standard, they have a YAMZ engine with a capacity of 310 hp, but it is allowed to install the main element of the car from Mercedes or Cummins.

Special attention should be paid to 6501B9-470-031 for long-term transportation. Here, a sleeping bag, an expanded tank for 500 liters, as well as a powerful 412 hp engine are necessarily included as standard.

Wheelbase 6x6

It is represented by only two models of the same 6517 line. The dump trucks have a 9-speed gearbox, a load capacity of 19 tons and a sleeping bag. They differ in the engine power of 330 or 420 hp, and also in the fuel tank for 350 and 300 liters, respectively.

Wheelbase 8x4

It includes two types of 6516. Both variants have a 12-speed gearbox, an absolute maximum load capacity of 27 tons and a fuel tank for 300 liters. The standard design of the sleeping bag does not provide, however, it can be installed at the request of the customer. The difference between the models lies in the engines. The choice is possible from two options – this is the YAMZ for 412 hp and Cummins for 400 hp.
